Deathless pre-post-punk juggernauts Wire have come a long way in their thirty-five years and 47 ‘objects’ (soon to be 48!), and they made most of that progress between their first and second records, which, when you think about it, is fairly ridiculous.

Anyway. This is the best song they ever made, probably! Don’t feel bad Wire, the 45 other records/EPs/what-have-yous are pretty okay too.

Wire’s 1977 ode to NASCAR was not included in the original release of their seminal first album, but was tacked onto its deluxe reissue in 1994.  It was then stripped from the recent ultra-super remaster for fear that it was “like drawing an extra ear on the Mona Lisa”.  It is slated to re-appear in the hyper-digital brain-implant reissue in 2027.
